Delightfully creepy! It took me a bit to get into it but once I got the characters straight, I was down. Ordered the second book when I was about 80% finished with this one because I didn't want to have to wait on the sequel. That should give you an idea for the recommendation.

honestly, I was hesitant
A because it is often marked as YA - it is not. No smut but still, not YA.
B because I was just not sure about it. But many did I love it. There's no action per se but the plot is slowly inching forward, trickling along. Love the characters and the whole world.
I'm a bit worried Elm might fall in love with Ione - not a fan of hers - but anyways.
Oh and for people like me, expecting an adventurous trip across the lands to collect the cards: don't. The dangerous quest is more ...more

This was a pretty interesting book. Enjoyed the different magic system. I think it’s a bit overhyped but not a bad book by any means.
I highly recommend you read this book rather than listen to the audiobook though, if possible, because the narrator is so bad. The narrator almost made me dnf this book because it was done so bad and made the main character sound like an old woman, and made all the other characters sound exactly the same so you couldn’t tell what was going on. this book took quite awhile to pick up the pace. the last 30% of the book was really exciting, but i was still left with the feeling that i didn’t really know much about the characters and wished i knew them deeper.
but the magic system was really interesting and i found myself wanting to know what happened at the end.
