One Dark Window could be excellent. Delightfully creepy! It took me a bit to get into it but once I got the characters straight, I was down. Ordered the second book when I was about 80% finished with this one because I didn't want to have to wait on the sequel. That should give you an idea for the recommendation.

This series was a breath of fresh air. It was like nothing I’ve ever read or seen before. My only complaint is that most of the characters lacked any depth. It’s implied that they are all holding secrets, but we very rarely get a peek at what those are.

this book took quite awhile to pick up the pace. the last 30% of the book was really exciting, but i was still left with the feeling that i didn’t really know much about the characters and wished i knew them deeper.
but the magic system was really interesting and i found myself wanting to know what happened at the end.

Gothic romances are just chef's kiss!
Here, the magic system was novel, definitely refreshing and new. Providence Cards that anyone can wield, granting a form of power but when used too much also a poison.
