ok... first off. I Get. The. Hype. But I made the mistake of immediately starting the second book before reviewing the first and now my head has merged them into one giant cube of swiss book cheese.

there is a lot to love about ODW. the setting, the magic, the lore, the characters, the creepy feeling that something really bad is about to happen for the entire novel... gimme more. I need so much more.

It took about 250 pages for this book to grab me but then I was hooked.

Things I enjoyed:
- The storytelling about the magic system - its creation, its use, its toll - is wonderful
- The rhymes created for the story / the old book of alders
- Ravyn
- Super morally-grey Nightmare
- Interesting side characters --> Looking forward to learning more about Elm and Emory

5/5 - I couldn’t believe this was the debut novel for this author! I absolutely loved this book, the concept, the characters, the magic system. I was completely entrenched in the story, I was swept away by the writing and I loved all the little cryptic rhymes. One of my favorite reads of the year!
