This was a fantastic read and one of my favorites this year. I’m amazed at the depth of the story for a standalone fantasy! This was fully fleshed out from start to finish.

I would characterize this as an adult fantasy/cozy read. It was fun and lighthearted but also touched on serious topics such as death, torture, and abuse against women. We explore feelings of helplessness during tragedy and it is approached in a way that I appreciated and respected.

When I ended my first sitting on halfway through the book I was asked ‘And… what do you think?’. All I could come up with was ‘interesting’… I liked the writing style and the pacing, but felt puzzled about how the story would develop. I also couldn’t really connect with the main character Marra, as she was quite depressing and oozed an air of hopelessness.

It was a fun read! Although it did take me a while to finish it because the story kept leaping through different worlds, there was a lot of banter,which was really fun. But for me it would be a one time read only
