I enjoyed this more than I thought I would when I first started it. It was slow building but once the action started I found it hard to put down. Interested to see how this love triangle will go.

I hate to disappoint the girlies but...Ill give it 3.5 because the ending was fun and anxiety inducing :D

I don't want to say anything BAD about TOG 1 because I KNOW it gets better and I ABSOLUTELY will be continuing the series. I know SJM tends to make boring first books in her series and that's okay, I still love her.

I'm changing this from four to five stars after rereading it. Yes, I did reread this book less than a month after first reading it. Don't judge.
Rereading it made me realize how genius this series is and how much thought and love went into it. I also read some of Sarah J. Maas' early blog posts, which were really interesting and inspiring. They made me appreciate this series and her writing in general so much. She's so awesome.

OKAY SO I JUST READ AT THE BACK OF THIS July 17, 2015

I'm changing this from four to five stars after rereading it. Yes, I did reread this book less than a month after first reading it. Don't judge.
Rereading it made me realize how genius this series is and how much thought and love went into it. I also read some of Sarah J. Maas' early blog posts, which were really interesting and inspiring. They made me appreciate this series and her writing in general so much. She's so awesome.

OKAY SO I JUST READ AT THE BACK OF THIS BOOK THAT THE IDEA FOR THIS SERIES ORIGINALLY WAS INSPIRED BY CINDERELLA because Sarah J. Maas had been listening to the Cinderella score and I'VE LITERALLY BEEN LISTENING TO THAT WHILE READING THESE BOOKS AND NOT EVEN REALIZING THAT THEY WERE THE INSPIRATION!! Like I've just been listening to my Spotify playlist of Disney scores and like literally whenever one of the Cinderella ones come on I'm like wow this is so intense and perfect for the story. Craziness. This is making me more happy than it should. :)

AHHH I FINALLY READ IT.
I love the plot and the world and the characters and the writing and everything already!
I LOVE Celaena. What a fantastic protag. And I LOVE Nehemia. And Dorian. And Chaol is good too :D
He's a good friend for Celaena but... nothing... else. I already am shipping Celaena/Dorian... Celorian? Delaena??
Some of the story was a tad predictable... And the general arc of it was pretty obvious. Not too many crazy plots twists and turns.
I'm scared because I feel like Dorian is going to like leave for a while in the next book and Celaena and Chaol are gonna get together... I don't know how I feel about that. I UNDERSTAND all the team Chaol people, I really do. He treats Celaena like an equal and wants her to be the best she can be and seems very loyal. But I just can't help preferring the emotional funny one. As always. :|
ANYWAY the point of this book is really not the love triangle. There was so much world building and interesting tension with characters and THAT is the biggest reason I'm excited to continue on. ...more

At first, I was kind of worried that I had TOG and ACOTAR confused—I knew for sure ACTOAR has faeries, but it took so long for any sort of magic to be brought up in TOG that I was sure ACOTAR was the one with faeries, and they didn’t show up in TOG. However, when magic finally did show up, I was intrigued—I don’t know if I have this right since this is only book one, but it seems to be a sort of rune “magic” (though Wyrdmarks predate magic), which I find interesting.

I liked this, especially the ending. It took me a fat minute to get through and I’ve been so busy to the point where I just wasn’t interested. I’m definitely excited to continue the series!! (I love Chaol ok).
