Damn, I was so excited to pick up this book, and wanted so much to fell in love with it, but it never happened, and now I ended up thinking that China Miéville is probably awesome, but not for me.

Mixed feelings. As another reviewer put it, this isn't a book to read for the plot, but I found the author's linguistic acrobatics mostly irritating. And repetitive. $5 words stand out: you don't get to use the same one twice in the span of only a few pages.
Not really sure why the title was chosen. It's not even close to a focal point of the book.
The city itself reminds me of Ankh-Morpork with all the humor and earnestness stripped from it. Which is honestly just depressing.

China Mieville is incredible... very imaginative book. Wow.
