This is a good collection of short stories, inspired by Octavia Butler’s writing but never imitative of her. Not all the stories feel finished, and many of them are excerpts from longer works.
Among my favorites was “The River”, by adrienne marie brown, a meditative quasi-horror story in which the river itself resists gentrification. I also liked “Lalibela” by Gabriel Teodros, a fascinating story about time travel which starts with a technically advanced culture in 12th century Ethiopia.
