this book is EXACTLY what is is supposed to be.

this book is made for us to FEEL for the ending. We are supposed to watch then fall in love with each other so the ending is more of a shock and painful to us. This book is perfection because it’s moving the plot forward, preparing for the next book. It is EXACTLY what it was supposed to be in more.

Alright, let's dive into this one because I've got some thoughts! Honestly, this book could've been a novella, and it felt super empty to me!The whole ‘journey’ to find Paedyn and return to Ilya, which took up like 70% of the book, should've been a side plot at most. I was waiting for something epic, some fantasy magic, but what I got was a whole lot of nothing. It was basically just a straight-up romance novel, and the author had this incredible opportunity to dig into the power dynamics and ma Alright, let's dive into this one because I've got some thoughts! It was basically just a straight-up romance novel, and the author had this incredible opportunity to dig into the power dynamics and make it way more alive, but my girl Lauren chose to keep it safe and boring. 💀

Let's talk about Paedyn for a sec. What a downgrade! I mean, seriously, talk about hypocrisy while she's running in circles denying everything. It's exhausting! I get that there's supposed to be some tension and conflict, but it would've been more acceptable if there were enough "enemy" moments to back it up. Instead, it felt like a shallow attempt at drama. At least give us some real conflict to chew on! I was craving those moments where they could've clashed, but it was just in the beginning and then they were suddenly ‘in-love’? 😭

I wanted to root for Pae, but she kept making choices that left me rolling my eyes. There was so much potential for character growth and development, especially with all the power play at stake, but it just fizzled out. I wanted to see her go frantic and wild and really step into her role, but instead, we got a lot of "will they, won't they" without the payoff.

Now, the ending. Talk about predictable! I knew the queen was dying and there's no way the author would let the main character die in such a boring way. So, of course, she threw Paedyn into that role to add a "twist." But honestly, it wasn't a twist at all; it was just a tired plot device. I was sitting there thinking, "Really? This is the best you could come up with?" It felt like the author was trying to pull a fast one, but it just fell flat. 🥰

And the whole "return to Ilya" thing was like the author was ticking boxes on a checklist rather than crafting a cohesive, engaging story. I wanted to be surprised, to have my mind blown, but instead, I was just bored.

Now, I know this is a romantasy novel, and I'm all for a little steam. The intimate scenes were well-written, I'll give the author that, but they didn't really add anything to the overall story. It was like, "Okay, time for some sexy times," and then it was back to the predictable plot. I wanted the romance to be integral to the story, to drive the characters and the conflict, but it felt more like an afterthought.

Overall, this book felt like a missed opportunity to create something truly epic knowing this is the middle of the book so i expected a lot to learn from their world. The author had the chance to blend romance with fantasy in a way that would keep readers on the edge of their seats, but instead, we got a safe, predictable story. If you're looking for a quick, easy read with some steamy moments, then sure, go for it. But if you want something more unique and exciting, you might end up feeling a bit disappointed. 🤷‍♀️

I really wanted to love this book just like the first one but it just didn't deliver the goods. Here's hoping the third book to bring the heat and gives us the fantasy we deserve! ✨📚 Maybe next time, the author will take more risks and really push the boundaries of the genre. At first I was on the verge of dnfing this one but boy was I wrong it started off really slow took a while to get to the good parts it was a really good read I can see why people really enjoyed the second one. I know this book can be a hit and miss and i understand why with such a slow burn the intro is I feel like this book is to do more about finding your enemies who you can trust along your assignment and a lot of romance alon ...more

ׂ╰┈➤ Dear LAUREN ROBERTS, robbed is an understatement. Please say this is a joke right now. There is no way i have to wait until april for the next part after that ending. But i have to admit, you outdid yourself with this one.

This book was fine. Just fine. I will still read the next one tho.

Not something that has to do with the book per se, but just something that bothered me: I always read the acknowledgements to any book, good or not, and I noticed that the acknowledgement to Reckless was the exact same (and I mean literally word for word) as in Powerful.
