I can genuinely say this is the first book to make me feel something close to real fear. The way it dives into native lore, isolation, mourning, death, and spiritualism is absolutely chilling. The mimic, the lurking presence—it genuinely terrified me. I was initially worried because the book starts with an insane intensity, but for me, it maintained that tension all the way through. If you scream into the void, something will answer—wow, this book truly captured that dread.

He beckoned her in every voice she knew, calling out her name in all his stolen tongues.

This was a spooky possession story that follows the rapid decline of a young couple's mental state. It makes non-believers, well believe, and terrifies them beyond all comprehensible measures.

The prologue really set the tone for this book and what was to be expected. It started strong, lost some momentum during the middle but picked it back up again closer to the end. The scenes described featuring the ent ...more
