Reading extreme horror can be cathartic. It can be an outlet when life feels like it's too much. When the trauma gets a little too real, the lure of a grotesque, disturbing novel is almost impossible to ignore. Sometimes it's darkly amusing, how gratuitous the disgustingness of this genre can be, but sometimes when you scratch below the surface, a hidden gem exists, waiting to be uncovered.

I really couldn’t say for certain that I “enjoyed” this book. However, it stuck in my brain for far longer than any other book has. At its roots, Cows is a depressing tale. I couldn’t help feeling bad for the main character, and the conflicts he had to put himself through due to (for the most part) his mother. I love this book it’s absolutely disgusting but it seems like everything happens for a reason and there’s a lot of commentary behind it. i can’t say much without spoiling. It’s hard to read but also written so well. I really enjoyed it.
