What surprised me most about Ulysses was the modern feel to the writing. I would not have pegged it as a book written almost a hundred years ago.
Earthy. Fecund. And almost completely incomprehensible for me. The only other reading experience I could make comparisons to would be House Of Leaves, in the stream-of-consciousness narrative particularly, and the leaping from character to character like a demented spirit.
Two words come to mind for this story: Holy. Shit.
Consider it a synopsis.
