This was really a great surprise for me. I am not a Harry Potter fan and the first adult novel by JK Rowling (Casual Vacancy) did not blow me away although I felt compelled to finish it.

I was not sure if I should be giving it another shot, maybe JK Rowling just wasn't for me. But I love detective novels, so I decided to give it another go. And The Cuckoo's Calling hit the right spot at the right moment. I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery.

Honestly, I don't get why I liked this books so much. It did two things that I normally hate when authors do (huge dialog chunks and a lot of description), but in this book it really worked! It was an engaging mystery with strong characters. I liked it and hope there is another one in the series. I highlighted so many quotes in this book! ...more

Okay. Not sure how to put my thoughts on paper. SO, here are my random thoughts-

The book grabbed my interest early.
The F-word was used VERY, VERY EXCESSIVELY (& I'm a reader is generally forgiving of this).
It was clear the author AKA J.K. Rowling was trying TOO HARD to write CLEAVERly.

Overall, it felt too contrived & far-fetched for me.
