What Members Thought

After the relentless pace of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, Collins brings everything to an almost grinding halt with Mockingjay. The trauma of everyday life in District 12 and living through two Hunger Games have finally caught up with the characters. Collins takes her time unraveling her characters’ mental states giving readers an intimate look at the trauma her world has inflicted.

4.5/5 (4/5?)
Not nearly as good as Catching Fire was. I have to side with the majority on this. While I still really liked it, I feel like there are so many unanswered questions and things that were never given enough attention.
This book is even darker than books 1 and 2. It drives home the horrendous effects that the Hunger Games and the control of Snow had on our characters.
I feel like the way Panem ends up is SLOPPY. And of course I can't discuss this without spoilers, so I'll chuck them behin ...more

Ah. Mockingjay.

Finishing the book left me in a daze, and feeling like curling up in a closet myself. It was easier for me to get into this book compared to the first two, especially THG.

THOUGHTS AFTER REREAD
I think I needed to reread this book to fully realise what was going on in the plot, the first time I read it I read it as soon as it was released and haven't gone back to it. While parts have not upset me as much as when I first read (emotional breakdown at the cat bit, I sobbed for half an hour), I read this with a new look on it. The second time reading it, I genuinely believe that Suzanne Collins is a genius. Though I can understand why people don't like it as much as th ...more

I first read Mockingjay in December 2010 and rated it 4 stars. This is my first time rereading it since then and my view on this entire series has completely changed. 5 stars, hands down.
