I am simply blown away by this book. What an extremely powerful story. A story, if you ask me, about the intricacies and wonders, the resiliance of mankind.

I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race - that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.

It's a book that takes place in WWII and is narrated by death itself. Somehow, thoug I am simply blown away by this book. What an extremely powerful story. A story, if you ask me, about the intricacies and wonders, the resiliance of mankind.

It's a book that takes place in WWII and is narrated by death itself. Somehow, though, I can't help but describe parts of this book as cozy. Once the story gets going - not counting the disasters that happen - it's cozy in the sense that you read about these people their daily lifes, the silly little moments that make up not only their life but the person they are and will become. It doesn't tell you the story day by day but rather picks at these seemingly insignificant moemnts, that turn out to not be insignificant at all, but very important for these characters and their lifes.

The aspect that's in this book of the importance and impact of words and books is very nice to read about. It helped me connect to Liesel, and made me root for her even more. I loved reading about her as a main character. I loved her father too, as a character and mostly the father/daughter relationship. It made me think of my own father and that realisation might have made me tear up just a little. Her mother was also a great character, one I didn't think I would like, but she very quickly proved me wrong. I also really loved Rudy, who deserved more. And so does the mayor's wife. Their relationships with Liesel were also amazing. I really felt connected with all of them, because this felt like a true deep dive into Liesel's life.

I almost want to immediately reread this book, to see if I can somehow enjoy it more. Because of it's heavy topics the enjoyment factor isn't too high, but it is undoubtedly a very beautiful story. It's been a good few days now, and I still find myself thinking about this book. Wanting to grab it to continue reading. It's definitely a book worth the read. ...more
