Personally, I thought this was a really great book!!! The storyline is not the most original, but the rest made up for it! I just loved the way everything was written. It was described very well, but in a way that it didn't get boring. And the romance! I absolutely LOVED the chemistry between Paedyn and Kai. Every time they talked I would just be sitting there, chuckling to myself. I was so mad at that Cliffhanger!!!! Can't wait to read the next book! ...more

But there were just two things that were very confusing to me. How did Kai learn the silencers name even tho the silencers refused to give up that information? And Paedyn almost immediately trusted the resistance even though it is mentioned many times that she has trust issues. I loved it. The plot is really really good,even tho I think there was too much hunger games vibe.
Kai&Paedyn😍 I think it’s one of the best enemies to lovers and then kinda back to enemies ever.
Kai is the best man character😍
Can’t wait to read the second book. I hope it’ll be good🥰

i feel like people either love or hate this book. personally, i absolutely loved it and ate it upppp. powerless is the first book in a trilogy that is to be released that has a dual point of view between paedyn gray, the fmc, and kai azer, the mmc. this story is set in the kingdom of ilya where most humans, called elites, were gifted powers by the plague, but the few who weren't, ordinaries, were to be killed off.
if you love romantasy and the hunger games, i definitely recommend this 4.5 stars ⭐︎

if you love romantasy and the hunger games, i definitely recommend this book. it was so enjoyable, the tension was there and the banter and tropes had me, embarassingly, kicking my feet and giggling and getting super excited.

storyline: like i said before, a plague in the kingdom of ilya killed off many humans, but most of those who survived, called the elites, were granted powers. those who survived but weren't lucky enough to gain powers from the plague, however, were called the ordinaries, and the king of ilya declared for all ordinaries to be killed off. paedyn gray, the fmc, lost her dad to the king when she was young. years later, she was living with her best friend, adena, on the streets, but it wasn't easy. being an ordinary, she had to learn to steal and fight without powers. but one day, she accidentally saves one of the princes, prince kai, the mmc, and is selected to compete in the trials, a series of games meant to showcase the elite's powers- the very thing she doesn't have. so, leaving behind adena and the dangerous but now normal life she had in the slums, she has to go compete and try to survive while also working out complicated feelings.
i loved this book because it had so much tension, and just enough fighting and blood and death to go hand in hand with that. it didn't give off that much fantasy, but it was still very enjoyable, mindless, and fast paced. i loved the friendship between prince kai and his brother, kitt. it was very fun throughout the whole book when they were training together or just talking. i also loved the friendship between paedyn, adena, and ellie, paedyn's maid when she got to the palace for the trials, although there could've been more of that. it was very sweet and simple, how adena would make paedyn's clothes and ellie would give paedyn makeovers for balls and they would all just be talking together like how me and my friends do.
there were a couple plot twists in the book that were exciting and surprising. i thought it was cool how everyone worked together (until everything started going wrong ofc). the ending left me on such a big cliffhanger, and i can't believe i have to wait until JULY for the next book!! the writing and descriptive language was very pretty and i imagined everything very nicely. i did feel a bit bad for kitt and how everyone thought he was weak, but i'm scared that he's gonna turn into a villain because idk how i would feel about that.

⚔︎ paedyn gray (fmc): in all honesty, paedyn didn't really leave a mark on me. i loved her personality and how much of a fighter she was and all that "dagger strapped to her thigh under her ball gown" stuff. i definitely felt her feelings with her like guilt, fear, anger, etc. i especially felt her feelings towards the end of the book- iykyk. but despite that, i definitely think her character development could've been better- she basically stayed the same throughout the whole book, but more books will be released, so i guess i'll wait and see if she changes.

⚔︎ kai azer (mmc): i definitely resonated with kai more than i did with paedyn. he definitely changed throughout the story because he met paedyn. like i said before, i loved his relationship with kitt and thought it was super fun and sweet but could also be bitter at some points in the story (again, because of paedyn). i feel like the love triangle between the two and pae could've been a bit more competitive because i feel like that would've made it a bit more exciting. he was also getting drunk a lot so trigger warning for that lol. his point of view was super enjoyable, and i feel like it was all poetry- (again, because of paedyn). but it gave me butterflies every time i read about his thoughts for her.

overall, i think this book was very enjoyable, and i definitely recommend this to anyone who loves the hunger games, tension, and tropes like: tending to wounds, ballroom dancing, dagger to throat, who did this to you, and enemies to lovers. the only thing i didn't really like was how pae didn't really have any character developement, but despite that, i gave this book 4.5 stars and will recommend this to every romantasy reader, and congrats on your first book lauren!
