No rating because I only read Bimini and Cuba, skipping the U-Boat action. The fishing scene in Bimini was wonderful, unforgettable; it had me on the edge of my seat, empathizing with everyone on board despite a complete lack of fishing knowledge. Hemingway gives the “dull” a warming tenderness (descriptions of food, the house floor, stroking a cat with a beard, driftwood burning), while understating the downright tragic.
