The Hobbit tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, a quiet and unadventurous hobbit who gets swept up into an epic quest with thirteen dwarves and the wizard Gandalf. Their mission? To reclaim the dwarves' homeland and treasure from the fearsome dragon Smaug. The Hobbit is an amazing shorter story in comparison to the Lord of the Rings. It took a single semester of college to read and was entertaining and enjoyable the entire way through. The plot is well paced and finishes in a satisfying way.

It's certainly funnier than I remember - although sometimes it was really "bully Bombur hour"

I will add that sometimes it's hard to recall this was originally meant to be a children's book - the writing style was hard to get through until I had adjusted to it. But once that was down, the pages did fly by. I didn't read it as fast as I could with another book this size, and I think that's mostly due to the writing.
