I read the serialized version of the story on Kindle Vella, before they were combined and edited into one volume.
It starts out as a whimsical fantasy story, as almost immediately the impossible happens for Derek every day, not least being his relationship with his talking pet rabbit. After all, nobody has a talking rabbit for a pet.
