Okay, I have to say that I picked this book up partly due to all the hype (and partly because it's involved two of my favorite genres)... I mean, so many people had recommended it to me and I finally got sick of hearing about it, so I picked it up and read it... or as least tried to.

Let me first say that I am a huge romance and vampire/supernatural fan, so when I first heard about the book I was really excited to read it because it combined two of my favorite genres.

First five star rating of this book was from 2007, before it was a topic of public opinion. I just reread it for the first time since all the acclaim and infamy, and I stand by my initial opinion.

In the middle there, I started to wonder if my opinion was invalid because of being a dramatic middle schooler. Now that I’ve been through complicated phenomenal love and devastating heartbreak though, I feel even more like their relationship is emotionally realistic and valid. This is the first real Romance novel I have ever read. The first vampire novel as well. I quickly became addicted to the series. There is something so intriging about Edward's troubled and conflicted character and the timeless star crossed romance brought out the romantic in me.

On the surface it may not seem very deep or appear to have much substance but there are some important themes within This series. Choice, self control and accepting people for who they are, not for what others make them ...more
