I really enjoyed this book. Christopher Paul Curtis does an amazing job of presenting young Black boys who are understanding of people around them and their situation. They may not understand the world that much, but they definitely are more understanding of what they are dealing with internally. Bud would get along greatly with Kenny Watson.

This book seems to be slow at the beginning but has a great storyline and important lessons to learn. It is a great example of a coming of age novel. My favorite quote from this book is: “There comes a time when you're losing a fight that it just doesn't make sense to keep on fighting. It's not that you're being a quitter, it's just that you've got the sense to know when enough is enough.” ...more
