What Members Thought
This book has a slow beginning, but speeds up and has multiple moral lessons for children. It involves a deep, serious history, but there is also a good amount of light humor to decrease the intensity. I like the way the character's talk in southern accents. I also like how the narrator is a young, naive girl who is learning and understanding more and more through her peers. It is easy for the reader to grow and connect with this coming of age novel. Really enjoyed this book, I had read it when I was in eighth grade and I appreciated the opportunity of reading it again as a young adult.
