Book 9/100 for the Newbery Challenge | 2013 Newbery Winner

Hi friends - if you haven't seen it already, I have decided I want to be "well-read" in children's literature. So I am giving myself an unreasonable amount of work by reading all 99 of the Newbery Winners (and yes I am rereading the titles I've previously read) before the newest award is given out on the 100th anniversary of the Newbery Award next spring. I will be going from most recent to the oldest.

Very good book! It's crazy to think that it was written from a Gorilla's point of view. Every once in a while, I would stop and remind myself that Ivan is a Gorilla. Very powerful book and the artwork is amazing. Loved the book and the overall message. ...more

Such a sweet tender story. I loved that it was written in the words and thoughts of the gorilla. A short easy read. I would recommend to kids who have a hard time wanting to read.

I loved this book. There was so much emotion and detail. The author did a fantastic job of bringing me into the story and causing me to cheer characters on and join in the excitement of their victories.
