When I began reading this series, I envied the readers that had already gotten to and past Queen of Shadows, simply because I've seldom seen such a praised and adored book. Now I understand why every reader from every area of the earth was losing their wits over this book. It deserves six and a half stars. It deserves the world. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Aelin Ashryver Galathynius. She has always been fire. She has always been perfection. She has always been power. Now she is also confidence. She believes in herself more than ever, and SJM help her enemies, because she is unstoppable. She is absolutely ruthless, vicious as she's always been. But now she knows whom to be vicious towards. She is genuine perfection. 👑🔥❤️
I think Rowan Whitethorn might now be forever imbedded in my brain. He has left a mark no book boy will ever be able to erase. And I'm not even mad about it. Aelin couldn't have found a more perfect more-than-friend. What has made me melt into a puddle since we first met him was simply the lengths he was willing to go to protect his queen, whether that be Maeve or Aelin. Since he swore that blood oath in Heir of Fire, I fell in love with him. I dropped to the ground with a vicious thud and I don't think I can ever get up. The little bits of their romance we were blessed with in this book were undoubtedly devoured by me and probably everyone who's ever read QoS, but God, I NEED more. I am a starving woman, and their romance is a feast. I shall not wait until tomorrow to tandem read the next two books at all.
Dorian was what shattered my soul in this book. The boy has never known happiness. I suppose SJM loathes him. He has been lonely and betrayed since he was a tiny little thing, nothing like the gorgeous, loving king he is now. Despite my embarrassment, I have to admit that I didn't even pay attention to Aelin and Dorian setting the whole castle on fire, because my eyes were too busy weeping over his quotes, specifically "Dorian Havilliard. He was Dorian Havilliard. And he was looking at Celaena Sardothien." as well as "She had come back for him. They all had." HE REALLY DIDN'T FIND HIMSELF WORTHY OF SALVATION. Have I mentioned that I love him? 😭💙
Chaol, I hated so much in this book, I'm fairly certain it is because of my wrath and cursing that he wound up paralyzed. At least he has Nesryn - he doesn't even deserve her. I don't care that he reprimanded himself every day; he has done wrong to Aelin, he shall suffer. I do hope he winds up with a significant other, though, lest he become a pain in our lovely main characters' asses again. 😪
I adore Lysandra. I worship Manon. I am rooting for Elide. They made the book a million times better. The villains, on the other hand... I don't know what to make of Dorian's father's words before he died. Was he lying? Was he feigning feeling? Was he telling the truth, confessing, easing himself from the burden he'd always had on his back? We'll never know. Or perhaps we will. Time will tell😆
I am living and dying over Aelin's speech after she annihilated the glass wall, creating a door and freeing magic. She is magnificent and she knows it. ❤️
I just have to return to Rowan because I can't help myself...

I was initially furious that SJM wouldn't let Celaena x Dorian happen. That was, until I met Rowan. Celaena might have chosen Dorian or even Chaol, whom I have made an epiphany that I feel no small amount of hatred towards, but Aelin Ashryver Galathynius picks Rowan Whitethorn. And oh, what a lovely choice. Their relationship is what I'm craving, so stick around for the review of the next two books, because as I mentioned before, I will tandem read them, and hopefully I'll be able to finish all three books by the end of the month. ❤️❤️❤️ ...more

I enjoyed this book, but man was I in a slump with it. There was a lot of potential at different plot points and some of it just felt really flat.

The writing definitely stepped up and the world building and plot was denser and more complex, which I enjoyed but there were also over-explanations and points that dragged out longer than they needed to.

I would say that this book needs a trigger warning. The witches storyline was very gruesome and difficult to read at times, just the thought of what ...more
