I was initially planning on reading this compilation of novels once I'd finished the whole Throne of Glass series, but since I, more often than not, pry and peer into the corners of the internet for mild spoilers, I couldn't help myself but pry a minuscule bit. I discovered some things about what would happen near the end of the series, and I'm still bracing myself to read that torture, for I plan to have finished this series by the end of this month.
I looked at a few Goodreads reviews and peop I was initially planning on reading this compilation of novels once I'd finished the whole Throne of Glass series, but since I, more often than not, pry and peer into the corners of the internet for mild spoilers, I couldn't help myself but pry a minuscule bit. I discovered some things about what would happen near the end of the series, and I'm still bracing myself to read that torture, for I plan to have finished this series by the end of this month.
I looked at a few Goodreads reviews and people said they liked to read The Assassin's Blade right after Heir of Fire, since its emotional impact was the largest and hardest at that point in the series, and even though I'm already nearly 50% into Queen of Shadows, I thought, why not? I complied. I read this masterpiece of a book.
I really, really enjoyed reading about Celaena's backstory, how she got to where she is currently at, how skilled she was at such a young age, and most importantly, to learn all about her first love, Sam Courtland.
First and foremost, Celaena is wind, dust, stone, fire, POWER. She is stealth. She is wisdom. She is cunningness. She is perfection.
She is so strong that I just had to highlight every single bit of the book where she was boasting about herself. The girl is the best. She is gorgeous and she knows it. She's not deceiving us, she TOLD us she was beautiful 😂❤️
What surprised me in this book is that Celaena was so much more bright and cheerful, she held her head higher, yet she wasn't nearly as broken and experienced as she is later in the books. That says a lot about her. She's always been perfect. ❤️
I find myself to be frightfully similar to pre-Endovier Celaena. (Though I wish I could call myself beautiful like she does; I envy her for that) Competitive, prideful, ornate, music and book lover, cunning, smart, sharp-tongued, and simply a girl who knows who she is and what she is capable of.
Then there is the matter of Sam. He instantly drove his way into my heart, and he does NOT plan to vacate the spot he took up there! I adore the way he's always loved Celaena, I adore the banter (though not as much as Celaena x Dorian, AND LET'S NOT EVEN MENTION CELAENA X ROWAN) and I love that they adored each other, to the point that they can't stomach seeing each other hurting or that they contemplate leaving everything behind just to be together. That is adorable, teenage love. Albeit they're not like all teenagers...
I shuddered with painful, tearless sobs when Sam was found dead. I wanted to give Celaena a big, big hug. Don't even get me started that she learned the 'I am Celaena Sardothien, and I will not be afraid.' from Sam himself. That BROKE me. The last novel was insanely sad, and I am so proud of my little queen for enduring everything she did and still holding her chin high. She is the best warrior, if not the best female main character ever. I'm eager to finish the series. Until then, The Assassin's Blade gets five stars (is it possible for it to get 5.5?)❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ...more

I decided to read this book third in the overall series and I'm happy I did. I feel like I was able to connect with Celaena in Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight before diving into her backstory. I actually really liked reading all these novellas. The book is broken into 5 novellas, but I thought they all flowed together really nicely to create one story.
