What Members Thought

I have to admit, I got a little bored during some parts, except for the story with the healer, the Mute Master, and the Empire—those were standout moments for me! I read this as the third book in the series, but now I’m thinking I should have started with this one first. It would’ve made Celaena’s introduction in Throne of Glass even more powerful and helped me appreciate her character more.

Celaena’s back story was a roller coaster. I had no idea it was 5 novellas, but I kinda like how it was broken into those stories.
I liked learning about her adventures and her love story with Sam, but she was so young and naive (which is to be expected I guess). I read this after Heir of Fire, so my lower rating of Assassin’s Blade is probably because I’m obsessed with her character development in later books.

4.5 I'm rating this understanding that this is the prequel to the actual series. I really just enjoy the writing style of SJM. She knows a way to make every page contribute to the story. There's not a lot of fluff which is one of my pet peeves. Though this is a series of novellas they read more like a novel to me, and I enjoyed the adventure and love interest (won't give away anything). On to Throne of Glass!

Overall Thoughts
My second reread and it will just never get old. I love Celeana <3 so much !!!!! she is everything to me. I love being able to see her character development throughout the book. When I first read this one it was after the 3rd book and as someone who has read it before Throne of Glass and after Heir of Fire, I still think reading it as a prequel is the way to go. It makes the beginning of Throne of Glass much more impactful and the "My name is ...more
