This is my very first SJM novel and was worried I would be let down and not enjoy this amazing world she has built that so many people are captured by. What I should have been more worried about was having my heart ripped out of my chest after quickly becoming completely invested in the outcome of these characters stories. I mean that in the best way possible -- I would do it all over again.

4.5 I'm rating this understanding that this is the prequel to the actual series. I really just enjoy the writing style of SJM. She knows a way to make every page contribute to the story. There's not a lot of fluff which is one of my pet peeves. Though this is a series of novellas they read more like a novel to me, and I enjoyed the adventure and love interest (won't give away anything). On to Throne of Glass! ...more

Overall Thoughts
My second reread and it will just never get old. I love Celeana <3 so much !!!!! she is everything to me. I love being able to see her character development throughout the book. When I first read this one it was after the 3rd book and as someone who has read it before Throne of Glass and after Heir of Fire, I still think reading it as a prequel is the way to go.
