dnf. this book wasn’t for me. definitely check tw before going into this book.

2.5 rounding up to 3 --> The book has a slower beginning, which can feel repetitive. It does pick up in the middle but the ending, is somewhat confusing because the focus shifts from the main character's story to a less relevant/new character before tying everything together. This change makes the overall narrative not as smooth and easy to understand (going to have to look up a sparknotes summary to understand this section of the book).

I absolutely loved this book. The fact that it was a cozy fantasy with adventure, but the emotional kind... I think we need more of those in this world. I stand by my statements... I have never cried while reading a book, but this book came pretty darn close to having me in tears. This. Right here. I absolutely adore T.J. Klune's writing style and the beautiful stories he creates. I first read The House in the Cerulean Sea when it first came out and loved it. I was very excited to dive into this one and it did not disappoint. I think the only way to describe it is whimsical yet heavy. He writes about death and beyond while also making me smile.
