A solid world building book that made me excited for the rest of the series. It had great pacing and character development. The world was easy to understand and although it wasn’t necessarily a riveting read, it was a solid fantasy that set up a world with a lot of potential. I’m really looking forward to the next book!

I wasn't sure how to rate this, I was torn as I was reading it if I liked it or not. Until, of course, about the last 50 pages. I almost DNF this, but told myself to keep going, and was happy I did.

This was my first Norse mythology read so it took me some time to get my feet on the ground of where I was, all the different names of the places and the people involved. I knew of some of the Gods mentioned in the book, but not all, so I felt like I was tripping up on that. I think more knowledge an I wasn't sure how to rate this, I was torn as I was reading it if I liked it or not. Until, of course, about the last 50 pages. I almost DNF this, but told myself to keep going, and was happy I did.

I think more knowledge and a second read will prove to make this book even better the next time around.

This book is a slow burn with good pay off in the romance department. but it was a sllllllooooowwwwww burn getting there. The banter was exciting, witty and funny. I was laughing out loud a few times at the things they were saying to each other, it was cute.

WARNING - SPOILERS

Overall this is a great story about a woman who is thrown, over and over again, into situations where manipulation and control consume her and she is trying to find a way to protect her family at all costs. Until, of course, her family turned out to be complete ass hats.

This is a story about betrayal, power and facing fear. Can I just say, thank the GODS she killed that SOB of a husband she had in the beginning, that man was a monster. But, in doing so, she reveals herself to the wrong people and puts herself in harms way before even knowing what she is capable of, making it difficult for her to succumb to the manipulations and control.

She strengthens herself along the way and becomes a bad-ass B and I am here for it. Until, she crumbles again. And, why wouldn't she with all the lies and betrayal happening around her.

This story has lust turned to love turned to betrayal, and what a roller coaster that was.

As for the ending, it was pretty easy to figure out what was going on early on in the book in terms of Bjorn and his betrayal. There were a lot of easter eggs leading up to it being him all along. But, let me tell you, even though it was figured out early, it was still such a good payoff when hearing the full story (which I don't think we have heard it all yet). You could FEEL the betrayal happening and hear it in their voices.

I don't even know how I feel about Bjorn by the end. I feel like he truly loved her, and I understand he wanted her to be on her journey to finding HER fate and not mess with that. But, what about HIS fate? His fate is intertwined with hers, he was put in an impossible situation and you could feel his defeat.

I'm excited for the second book, I hope to see him grovel and for her to see the truths for herself and conquer them. ...more
