This. Book.

I did not know what I was signing up for when I started to read this. I thought it was a book about two friends that make games but it was so much more than that. I know nothing about video games - and it didn’t matter. This book follows the lives of Sam and Sadie from childhood to mid adulthood, through disability, painful relationships, depression, and tragedy. This book is not about games. It’s about them as people - and the way the games kept them connected.

3.8/5 I couldn’t settle on a solid 4 or 3.5 so we landed here. I don’t know what I expected, kind of went in blind. But it was pleasant, funny, sad and everything in between. It’s take of eras was interesting as it was mostly set in the 90’s early 2000’s but then had modern ideologies which made the timeline slightly confusing.

To me this book had slightly irritating friendship, sad romance and overall had a vague sense of sadness throughout the whole book.

Can someone please take the thesaurus away from this author?!?!

The book is riddled with ridiculously long lists (often explaining things we already get), unnecessary descriptive details, and every woke agenda you can think of, shoved into every corner for good measure.

The characters? Don’t get me started. The story spans decades, but none of the characters seem to grow or mature. Worse, all the characters sound exactly the same when they speak. There’s no distinct voice or personality to tell th ...more
