Carissa Broadbent: you will be dealt with for putting my heart through so much in the last 100 pages.

This book had me hooked the minute I started it. Off the top of my head, I believe this is the first fantasy book I ever read that successfully integrated a romance without feeling forced and weird, so major props to Ms. Broadbent. I truly thought this was going to be 5 star read for me. The first 3/4 of this books were captivating and engaging, the characters endearing and believable, and the world the author built is well thought out and brutally beautiful. But the ending completely lost me. I feel confused and conflicted.

This was my first Carissa Broadbent book and I am in LOVE with her writing style. It's effortless, it's clean cut, it's emotional, it's freaking funny guys! And her romance writing is so realistic and not fantasized at all, I absolutely ATE on this book. I will most definitely be reading more of her work in the future.

I gave this book 4 stars, mainly because by the end, while it was exciting and full of some beautiful twists and turns, it felt completed in a way. I mean, there was a cliff, but not as big as people came to react to. I felt like it ended nicely, but like I'm not salvating to pick up the next book, but i mean, I will, obviously. I do want more insight on Oraya and her background, WHAT IN THE WORLD IS SHE!? She is definitely more than human, that is for sure. But I felt like the explanation from Raihn was completed, I wish she left us with more on that front by the end. But, the groveling will be a delight to see in book 2 (praying there is some) 🙏🏻

The manipulation that transpired in this book was wonderful. It was sad, emotional but at the same time, completely understandable and RELATABLE. The push and pull of it was very enticing between Oraya and Vincent. It is 100% relatable in our everyday lives. LIke, I love my family, but I hate what they did. The constant agony and guilt between that was great on page.

The entire book as it is written was beautiful. I liked the way Carissa laid it all out, sectioned it out. I loved how each section was anchored with an Interlude of Oraya's past. It helped keep the story grounded and heading in the direction she wanted you to go. Straight forward, clean cut. I loved that style of writing.

the BANTER in this book. Full smile on my face as I am writing this. It was so good you guys! It was funny, it was sexy, it was raw, it is everything you want in the romance department.

i wouldn't call this book enemies to lovers. It's (hesitant) friends to lovers to......... I guess you'll have to read to find out.

Can't wait to dive into book 2 and see how this duology completes! ...more
