Oh my this book. If a book grabs me within the first few pages it's a win. If it then holds my interest to the point that I can't put it down, it's a solid five star read. I personally believe that this book is so underrated because I thought it was excellent.

Carissa Broadbent: you will be dealt with for putting my heart through so much in the last 100 pages.
This book had me hooked the minute I started it. Off the top of my head, I believe this is the first fantasy book I ever read that successfully integrated a romance without feeling forced and weird, so major props to Ms. Broadbent. Vampiric Hunger Games.
Great character relationships, and it had me reading late into the night. However, towards the end I started feeling like it was more cliche than I'd want.
I loved the worldbuilding and the plot was fast and hard. I loved it.
The only thing is that I thought there were too many Hunger Games-esque features, like the "smoke showing up every 90 seconds" kinda of behavior that is so clearly Hunger Games.
Towards the end, Rhain's and Oraya's relationship started feeling juvenil ...more

I truly thought this was going to be 5 star read for me. The first 3/4 of this books were captivating and engaging, the characters endearing and believable, and the world the author built is well thought out and brutally beautiful. But the ending completely lost me. I feel confused and conflicted.
"The Serpent and the Wings of Night" is nothing short of a masterpiece, deserving of a solid five-star rating. This exceptional book has left a profound impact on me and stands out as one of the best literary experiences I've had in a very long time.

Pretty Good
The writing style is very nice, however only four stars because so much of the plot was too convoluted to fully understand and I felt like the games were a poorer version of the Hunger Games. Also, no steamy scenes until almost the end of the book.

I loved all of the characters so, so much, especially the main one. She was vicious but kind in her viciousness. Something that really stuck with me was how she gave the guy a fair fight at the end of the book. Her notes on humans and how she lacks humanity were so interesting.
Ultimately, this book was so well done. I saw where it was going, but I didn't even care. I loved the goddess and am looking forward to the second book so much! ...more
