wowowowow. 4.5 only bc it was kinda slow in the middle. but i was screaming the whole ending was phenomenal. everyone’s been saying that the other books in the series are so much better than this one but i don’t understand how bc it was so good😭 i’m so in love with the world and the characters and extremely excited to keep reading the series!!

I read it through a couple of nights and stayed up till 5am to finish it last night 👀

I have very conflicted feelings about the romance in this book, but I know from personal history where my heart will inexorably lead me.
I'm extremely partial to Rhys but I also want a bit of happy, simple life for Fayre with Tamlin. But I also didn't like Tamlin in the second half of this.
I crave more Lucien scenes in book #2.

2024 re read:

I genuinely cannot believe I missed so much from the 1st time. Genuinely doesn’t slap as hard this time but I would still overall rate it 4 stars.

I just genuinely do not get the hype about Nesta, she is ignorant and selfish. If it wasn’t for Feyre they literally would’ve died. Let’s not forget how useless Elain was as well.

Tampon obviously isn’t as bad in this book but the locking her up, not letting her leave the grounds just ugh. I’ve always liked Rhys even though he was portra ...more

This book immediately caught my interest with its unique storyline, but then it slowed down significantly up until the last 160 pages or so where it became a real page-turner. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. The writing is excellent, although there were a few too many mentions of "watery bowels" 🤮. The characters are distinct and incredibly endearing, and the world-building is outstanding. I’m excited to finish the series! ...more

If you're a member of the BookTok/BookTube community, you surely have stumbled across this series by now; A Court of Thorns and Roses has overtaken the YA fantasy genre ever since it came out back in 2015. Like any popular book, I was apprehensive to read it as I've personally found that hype doesn't always equal high quality. So it sat on my shelf for...longer than it should've. If you saw my previous in-depth review for These Hollow Vows, I mentioned how everyone always compared that duology t If you're a member of the BookTok/BookTube community, you surely have stumbled across this series by now; A Court of Thorns and Roses has overtaken the YA fantasy genre ever since it came out back in 2015. Like any popular book, I was apprehensive to read it as I've personally found that hype doesn't always equal high quality. So it sat on my shelf for...longer than it should've. If you saw my previous in-depth review for These Hollow Vows, I mentioned how everyone always compared that duology to this series - saying it was a "rip-off" and "copy, but worse" of ACOTAR. I thoroughly enjoyed those two novels. However, that was before I dived into this series...I think it's fair to say the latter wins my vote. ;D
Regarding this particular book itself (A Court of Thorns and Roses), the first ~100 pages or so are SO EXTREMELY SLOW. Oh my gosh. All it focused on was worldbuilding and introducing you to our MC, Feyre, and a typical day in her poverty-struck life in a small town with her ungrateful, broken family. It was so arbitrary and boring that I almost gave up reading right then and there.
But I'm so glad I didn't.
After you climb past the steep first few chapters, you begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel - the sunset, so to speak. Feyre heading to the Spring Court and meeting Tamlin was nice at first, although when she meets Rhys...iykyk. It's precious.
Her entire character arc was fueled, in my opinion, on her will to finally be loved and protected for once in her life. That desire in itself caused her to be blinded to some major issues that she sugarcoated for pretty much the whole book. It was quite annoying to read at times because of how blinded she was, but on a lighter note, I also loved the overall world of Prythian/all the courts/royalty aspects and think Sarah set it up very well for future development on the magic system. The taste of it we got seemed strong, intricate, and complex.
Regarding the romance (an element that I think makes this series the most controversial, lol), I personally adore the enemies-to-lovers so, so much. Once again, it's a classic MC x Vanilla x Morally Gray Character love triangle, but Rhysand... <33 The banter, the nicknames, the bond hooked me from the start. The series as a whole is a bit heavy on spice/smut, though this first book has the least. The trauma representation is an entirely seperate problem - I believe the SA backstory wasn't handled in an appropriate or accurate manner - but I genuinely enjoyed and think it set up the rest of the series well! 3/5 stars.⭐⭐⭐ ...more

I mean, what can I say? It has it all. Shocker. I will say- I’m so surprised that I was able to not have the ending spoiled for me with all the hype around these books. I was genuinely surprised by the ending and that doesn’t really happen for me!
