This was a cross between The Red Queen and The Hunger Games, but it didn't stop me from loving it! I am gutted that the second book isn't out yet, which means I might die between books two and three if book two ends as well as this one did.

*Update* I just finished Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard which was published 8 years before and Powerless seems to be a cheap ripoff of it in comparison. From the pickpocketing MC to the same types of "Elites" (Silvers in Red Queen) and "Ordinaries" (Reds in Red Queen) down to the double love interest of two princes, it's a literal near replica. Yikes! I do however like there's more romance in Powerless but it's still a YA non-spicy romance. If you're thinking of reading one, I'd recommend Red Que

At first, I was hesitant about leaving a rating/review because I know that this is a new author and I genuinely don't want to cause damage. Ultimately, I thought that I could leave something to help her grow and maybe prevent people from wasting time like I did...
Probably like most of you, I saw a promo for this book on TikTok. Self-published success story. Unfortunately, it does read like a self-published book. It's too wordy, the dialogue is clunky/cliche (Ex: there is a scene where a villain ...more

I was hesitant to start this book because of all the “it’s plots are recycled” and “it’s unoriginal” stuff. And while I did notice a couple “similarities” between some other books I’ve read… I really enjoyed it!
I thought it had enough originality that it didn’t feel like a copy of other books! And I actually enjoyed the plot!
Plus Kai Azer the man you are 😍 lol
I definitely liked this book and am excited to read more from this series!

This book lives up to the hype! The banter between the main characters is top-notch, creating intense chemistry without relying solely on steamy scenes. This is a masterclass in tension-building. I initially picked it up thanks to BookTok buzz but stayed for the gripping plot development. Reminiscent of the Hunger Games with its intense vibe, the banter truly steals the show.
