What a fantastic story! I really loved Julia and her storyline in this book. She overcomes so much, and it makes for a beautiful story of God's redeeming love and how no one is too far for God's love to reach. The mystery of the treasure made for a fun plot, and it played really well into Julia's story and what she is trying to overcome. This is really just the most wonderful book and it will be one for my reread pile! A completely charming story.

I love stories that mention the Harvey Girls and Harvey Hotels that period of history sounds so intriguing. This was such a good story filled with secrets, adventure and suspense. Kimberley Woodhouse does a great job in the setting of this story. She makes you feel like you are at El Tovar and at the Grand Canyon. You can also tell that she has done extensive research and you read all the little details that brings the story to life as you read. Her detail to jewelry making was fascinating.

A Gem of Truth is the second in the Secrets of the Canyon series by Kimberley Woodhouse. Like the first one, this book is such a good read

We find ourselves at the Grand Canyon, and at the El Tovar Hotel with the Harvey Girls. This story deals with a hidden treasure left many, many years ago and the search to be the first ones to find it. We also get to know Julia, Julia has a habit of telling stories which isn't a bad thing, except her stories are greatly embellished and more often than not are

A nice installment to this series, but I listened to the audiobook and was disappointed in the reader. Whaat is crazy is I listened to book 1 and it had the same reader and I enjoyed it. But this book seem to have more voices .. and many male ones.. and I just didn't connect with some of the choices the reader made. That said.. I stuck with it and loved the overall story. Just wished I had read it instead of listened to it. ...more

Set at El Tovar in the Grand Canyon, this story looks into the life of one of the Harvey Girls in 1907. Julia has had a difficult life, she has no friends, no family, no one. "She craved hope. Craved love. Craved family and friends." Julia meets Chris, a jeweler and designer. Slowly her heart starts to open. "I ( Chris) understand what Gramps said about love. That it was the finest gem to be found."
Add in the legend of a treasure, outlaws and mountain lions. You'll find yourself eager to find o

There is so much truth in this book. So much raw emotion. I don't know how Kimberley captured the trauma background and the resulting...issues from it, but she has NAILED it. I actually had to put it aside a few times because it's hitting me so hard. ...more
