Set in 1865, Ella finds herself being the only one willing to help a Lady of the Evening, Cynthia, give birth to her baby. When complications arise, Ella promises Cynthia that she will make sure the baby is taken care of. Cynthia tells her where there is a wet nurse and they helped her sister, The Remington Place. I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the premise of the story. I was drawn to the characters Ella and Westley, who were clearly drawn to one another. They marry for convenience, and the scene between them in the bedroom after the marriage, while not inappropriate for a married couple or graphic, it was a bit more than I like to read and made me feel uncomfortable.
