Short review:
Read this book for a light heart, laughs, and a touch of mystery.

Long review:
I had so much fun reading this book! I had gotten Authentically, Izzy at Baker Bookhouse when I was there for the Fiction Readers Summit, and while reading that and talking to Vickie about it, she told me I HAD to read Positively, Penelope, so of course I preordered it AND requested it from Net Galley. Now I REALLY need Luke's story to be released (Pepper, could you get on that, please?)!

Reading Penelope Edgewood's story was both an amazing adventure into the world of theatre, and an inspirational look into one of the most joyous and hopeful characters I've encountered. Everything about Penelope just positively brims off the pages in delight, wonder, and faith that God can accomplish anything. Ah, where to start? Positively, Penelope by @pepperbasham is a POSITIVELY, feel good story. If you haven’t read Authentically, Izzy yet I suggest you go back and read that first as that is the first book in the series. This is the second and things that happened in the first book are referenced quite a bit. Which I enjoy because it keeps the characters I got to know in the first book still going.

I loved Penelope so much! A girl after my own heart- she is a lover of movies, musicals and old fashioned love! She is naturally optimistic, bringing cheer and light with her wherever she goes which comes in handy when she lands on the beautiful island of Skymar for an internship at a beautifully historic yet dying theatre. This is right up her alley with all her marketing and theatre expertise, however! It’s here we meet the Gray family who owns the theatre. The loving and endearing Grandpa Gray, the grandchildren: Gwynn, Matt and Alec and their mother Iris. Penelope enters their world and really stirs things up with her big ideas and loving heart. Here we see her especially get to know Matt, also a single dad, who seems pretty grumpy on the outside but we learn has been through some really hard times with his prior marriage. Things really start to get interesting as Matt and Penelope befriend each other as they work side by side to save the theatre. If you love a clean, romantic movie with some mystery thrown in you’ll feel as you’ve stepped inside one with this book! It’s a you’ve got mail kind vibe with a touch of Julie Andrews all wrapped into one! Lots of fun banter, movie quotes, musical references to boot.

This book really is a cozy read due to how it’s told- mainly through text messages and emails and then occasionally switching to traditional narration. Again, if you’ve read the first book we are reading correspondence between Izzy, Penelope, Josephine and Luke (all brother/sister relationships) with other characters from this main story thrown in. It helps you get in the characters minds and see what they are thinking in this style of writing and I love that it’s so different. It really sets the novel apart from what I traditionally read. I know you’ll find yourself with a sappy smile while reading. I didn’t want the book to end at all but now I’m looking forward to the third installment where we get to know Luke Edgewood, the protective and sarcastic brother. I can’t recommend this series enough and I thank @pepperbasham for creating it! Let me know if you’ve read this or plant to in the comments!
