5+ stars & 8/10 hearts. As a preteen I read this book frequently and was more fascinated than disturbed. As an adult, I chose to reread this book and loved it. It has plenty of excitement. It has also plenty of sly humour. But most of all it tells a glorious lesson: how God could use even the concentration camps of the Nazis to glorify His name. Wow!!! May we all be able to show the love of Christ by being His hands and feet like Corrie and her family in terrible times of human depravity on this Earth.
I loved learning about her life and work. Her and her family are now among the saints reaping the rewards of their great works they did glorifying Christ and His cause in saving the world from the evils of sin.
Her father was a delightful man with many great analogies and faithful sayings. I can't wait to meet them all in heaven. ❤️ ...more

This book will give you chills and make you believe in miracles again. I started this one years ago, but stopped when I was worried it would be too heavy. Well, of course it's heavy. But it's moreso full of hope, and honestly, excitement. When the intro apparently quoted Corrie saying “Come with me and step into the greatest adventure you will ever know,” I found it a bit odd that the word adventure would be connected to what I thought would be so much suffering, written about within these pages. By the end, I got it. And I couldn’t keep it to myself. I had to share with my husband. All the incredible situations mentioned throughout the book that showed God was at work. I was so inspired by Corrie’s family’s faith, but especially her sister Betsie. God’s love clearly flowed out of her, and she clearly had the gift of prophecy. Numerous members of the ten Boom family were given visions during this time of trial and suffering, and it was so amazing to read about. The way that their lives were saved on numerous occasions (the clerical error!), the way God provided for them (the Davitamon drops!)... the way certain things seemed SO bad, but God later revealed to them how they were really a blessing (I mean, THE FLEAS!)... it made me wish I could also see hard things with gratitude before or without knowing their purpose.

This book gave me a lot to think about, and it’s definitely one of my top reads for the year. I highly recommend it, even if you are not a Christian; there is a lot of important historical information in here. I learned so much from this book, in various ways.

PS- The beginning was a little slow for me, and I wasn’t sure where it was going. If you find yourself thinking the same thing, PLEASE push through. It’s so worth it! ...more

While the first 20% of this book was rather boring, it picked up with the story of how the ten Boom family hid Jews during Nazi occupation of Holland during WWII. The author shares her heart for others in her recounting of the many ways that she and her family joined a sort of resistance in hiding Jews within her own home.
