Shelves: tbr-2024, modern-classic

A simple moving tale of two young men one of whom is intellectually impaired, following their dream. The main characters are well drawn and each contribute to a dramatic ending. This is my first Steinbeck and this has done enough for me to want to read other works by him.

Having read this book in school, I already knew the plot and major discussion points about this book. I remember enjoying it at the time about as much as a school kid could, which wasn’t much for me, but I liked it more than other books.

I was excited to reread it after a decade and see how much I enjoyed it as an adult and wasn’t disappointed. It is a deeply tragic story with a lot of social and cultural significance, with some very real characters. It is of the time in the way that the black c ...more
