I can’t apprehend or even begin to fathom how much I cherish this series. This conclusion to the duology was my first read of the year, and can I just say, what an unrivaled way to start off 2024. Ruthless Vows is the first book to gauge a direct path to my heart. The sentences displayed were not mere words, they held so much more merit and underlying implications. Rebecca Ross knows what she is doing when it comes to enamoring the reader and holding them hostage to the poignant and indescribable emotions and longings of the heart.

She has managed to repeatedly intertwine pure, authentic magic into her every sentence. There was torment and yearning that was constantly shown between Iris and Roman by their desperate plea to have an unobtainable life together. All while being separated by the unbreakable barriers of war and violence. I can’t put into words how conflicted and devastated I was as the magnitude of their situation and the gravity of all that they could lose, or gain, finally set in.

Iris has been through the wringer, yet she is still standing. She is the epitome of a strong-willed, intelligent, and relentlessly loyal lead character. She was written to represent all the girls who are aware of the magic that lies within words. Who find freedom and tranquility in writing. Iris is a character who is often dwelling in alternate realities but ultimately lives her own passionately. She didn’t let other people’s opinions and beliefs get in the way of her own. Even Dacre, an outright God, couldn’t sway her steadfast devotion to Enva.

Anything I could say to defend him, couldn’t surpass this quote. His love for Iris was unscathed by the turbulent war around them. Roman's love for Iris was an unbreakable vow, it was durable and everlasting. Roman was gifted and in a class of his own with regard to writing and sowing words together in a way that revealed his exclusive and unreserved love for Iris. He is a welcome reminder that genuine and tangible love does exist, even if it's fictional and written by a women.

The relationship between Roman and Iris is my most treasured emblem of love. The very second I started Divine Rivals, I became wholly attached to the romantic and unprejudiced letters they wrote to each other. I will forever be entranced by the fact that Roman and Iris first fell for each other's words and innermost thoughts. Instead of the way they appeared on the outside or for what they proclaimed fit of themselves to show the world. Roman and Iris first loved the raw and authentic archives of each other's heart and mind. If that is not love at its finest, then I don't know what is.

gagged. this book was stunning. beautiful. written with so much beauty and care I was entranced. pacing was so well done and these characters???? shut up. i’ll be thinking about this one for a long time from now.
