The absurdity of the trial. One of such dilemmas was, if the socially non-standard behavior(not showing emotions during one's mother's funereal ) is a relevant basis to make a crime more severe. Emotionless people surely do not strike the jurors as 'quite human' and it could be easier not to feel pity at sending them to their death.

The direct, simple, first-person narration makes reading the book really easy. Throughout the story, you can feel the sense of detachment and alienation or in other words "the gentle indifference". Even though I am nowhere near that type of personality, I could truly relate to him & his estranged nature. ...more
