I can’t believe I took so long to read this book! It was fabulous! The audible narrator had the perfect Southern lilt to match what I imagined Kya was like. A tender, heartbreaking story of being abandoned and then learning to survive despite the loneliness and the obstacles like lack of money. Kya is a fiercely independent, smart, creative girl/woman who loves the marsh and through the marsh learns love and trust.

There was much about this book I loved, and I found the mystery well crafted and satisfying, but in the character of Kara, there is just too much the reader is asked to believe. Those "too much-es " were too much for me and ultimately spoiled this otherwise excellent story.
