Wow! My heart! I was so thankful to finish this today. Not that it wasn’t a wonderful book from the beginning, but because I kinda grew tired of reading about this sad girl living in the marsh alone.

When I say sad, I mean SAD. This poor girl goes through so much pain and sorrow; loss and heartache. Despite that, she pushed for better. It was really very good, extremely well crafted. But not the kind of book I would ever think about reading again.

I can’t believe I took so long to read this book! It was fabulous! The audible narrator had the perfect Southern lilt to match what I imagined Kya was like. A tender, heartbreaking story of being abandoned and then learning to survive despite the loneliness and the obstacles like lack of money. Kya is a fiercely independent, smart, creative girl/woman who loves the marsh and through the marsh learns love and trust.

A striking tale of abandonment, predujice, perservance, and resilience coupled with the solace of nature and the mystery of love all in the name of survival.
