This is one of those rare books that shot to the top of my favorites list. I neglected my family, stayed up late, and devoured this beautiful story in a little over twenty- four hours.
Kya Clark is abandoned by her entire family and left to survive in a wild swamp at only six. Local authorities and townspeople turn a blind eye to the little girl and she manages to make a life for herself alone in a shack.
