Started fine, ended lame .
The story of a mentally deranged woman who supposedly kills her loving husband after tying him to a chair and doesnt speak after the act .. but only draws a highly symbolic picture.
Theo is the psychoanalyst who wants to cure her ..
And he too has a past..

Soon she becomes his patient and events occur ..

Wasn't impressed by this one.

Yet another well-hyped thriller that ultimately wasn't all that thrilling. I feel like I've been struggling with this genre since Gone Girl (which was a big DNF for me). The story here had potential, but an unlikeable narrator was the first thumbs down for me. Beyond that, I wasn't too enamored with any of the characters, I didn't feel invested in the plot, and the big twist finale wasn't really too twisty (I guessed fairly early on). ...more

Thanks to MacMillian Publishing and Celadon for an ARC of this exciting thriller!

My to read list of ARCs has been backing up of late, and this was the most recent one to come in, so I had not planned on reading it so soon. However, once I stopped, I could not finish until I reached the very end.

Believe the hype.

Authors are calling it unique and original, which is a high bar to give to a thriller because let's face it, it's all been done before.

Theo Faber is a forensic psych

Second Review for Bookist First:
I gave this book a 4.5. It was very good and I always love books with surprise endings. The book was easy to pick up and start reading. It had me hooked from the beginning! There were parts of it that I felt were a bit....flat? I'm not sure if that's the right word. Not boring, but not fast-paced either. However, you find out that all these parts are needed at the end. Sometimes when you're reading something, there are missing pieces that you don't even realize a

4.5 stars rounded up to 5. Fast-paced, creepy, shocking, well-written. I actually am impressed by the author’s ability to talk about psychotherapy in an informed and believable way. While there were frustrating elements and things I wanted more resolution regarding, the whole story had such a hazy, intoxicating tone that I'm not overly bothered. The despair described by the protagonist is very palpable, and even though I find it a touch coincidental/convenient, the way the story intersects with ...more
