I’ll have to sit and think about this one for a long time. It’s beautifully written and it made me look more into the history of Chile. I highly recommend.

A masterful force of magical realism - Allende captures the typical beats of Latin American magical realism (to an extent that I could see an argument that this novel is an unauthorized remake of One Hundred Years of Solitude) including political violence and revolution, inter generational ties and trauma, and a withering criticism of the status quo.
