When I was young I used to be obsessed with reading the novelizations of all my favorite movies (or just the novels they were based on-Jurassic Park!) which is an obsession that has waned dramatically as I've aged, but I love the TV show The Expanse, and its been long enough since I watched it that I figured I could read the book series. Corey has created a strong first entry into this series (and Ceres). He blends hard science fiction elements (especially when his characters are dealing with motion in zero or micro-gravity) with some soft science fiction elements (most of his biology seems to depend on black-box literary devices). And he makes them work together well, tying the plot together with a plausible representation of interplanetary politics. I will definitely be picking up the next book in this series.
