Another one of my all time favorite books of all time. Seriously this is my third time reading this book and I can not say enough good things about it. The concise way Lowry crafts this story with depth, and so many feelings: curiosity, anger, sadness, happiness, and being able to do all of that under 250 pages is incredible. Have you ever read The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas? At only 32 pages long, it's a quick read. I recommend reading it first. If you like it, you'll love The Giver. If you don't like it, you probably won't enjoy this one either.

Really 4.5 stars for me. This book was mandatory reading for my seventh grader. After pestering him for two weeks to read this book, my son, who "doesn't like to read" read it in two days! I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I debated between a 4 or 5 star rating and went with the 4 because, I wanted to know more than the ending provided.
