I can't believe that I avoided these books for so long! What a fool! I have to admit that I wasn't really expecting to like this book, and I ended up loving it! As a history major I ate up all the historical detail, and mention of Scottish/English history. I was also surprised at how much I genuinely liked the main character, Claire, I appreciated that she wasn't a ninny, as my mom would say, and that she actually takes control in a lot of the situations she finds herself in. I LOVED this entire series! Though I enjoyed the book from the beginning, I didn't truly get hooked until about 2/3's into it...so don't give up! There are 9 books in the series and for the most part, they are all a treat! The characters will become extended family and you'll be so glad there are 9 books! Get ready for an incredible adventure through time...You may just buy your man a kilt!

Diana Gabaldon wrote this book to see if she could. Several million fans agree with me that she could, and did so beautifully! ...more

Historical romance. This is not a light & fluffy, time travel romance. It is more realistic with how the time we're back in the Scottish days. I was very invested in the characters. Looking forward to the second one.
