My son was right. This was a great book. I kept saying "I don't enjoy science fiction" and he kept saying "But, this is awesome. You have to read it." He was sooooooo right.

And, I have to say that my original assumptions about this being appropriate for my eleven year old were incorrect. There are a few scenes where it is clearly NOT for him. Not that there's sex or cursing or drugs or anything. It's just - well, it's over his emotional age. That's all.

Ender's story is one of my favorites.

A boy bred to be a winner in a society that limits the number of children born to each family.
The threat of alien attacks on humanity an ever present thought in the background.
Family dynamics so complex and merciless that they drive the narrative at times.
Friendships forged on the training grounds.
Decisions that will change everything.

Ender's story is probably as near and dear to my heart as Katniss Everdeen's story or Harry Potter's story. These charac ...more

Ok overall, it was ok. I was horrified at the manipulation that went on through the whole book. I wasn't that interested in reading the next one in the series until the last chapter. Now I want to know what happens next. So if it wasn't for the last chapter it would have been 2 stars for me. ...more

This book was well written & I was fully invested in the main character & his plight. The ending was unexpected. It was nice to read a book that was not predictable.
