Audiobook performed by Mary Peiffer
Book #1 in the Kinsey Millhone series. Kinsey is a private investigator who is asked to look into an old murder case – by the woman convicted of poisoning her unfaithful husband. Nikki Fife has served her time but she swears she was innocent and wants to know who DID kill her husband. As Kinsey begins looking into the old case she discovers that a young accountant who did the law firm’s books also died shortly after Nikki’s husband – and of the same poison. The ...more

I really like Kinsey, she's no-nonsense, competent, and a little sarcastic. I think that this was a great debut of her private eye series. She's got a big past that we haven't really gotten a good glimpse into, but I hope more will be fothcoming.

I listened to this on audio book, and it was just ok for me. I REALLY wish with audio books, they would have one male reader and one female. The way that this narrator imitates males voices just drove me crazy!! All in all though, even if I had read this book for myself, I think the rating would have been the same. I know many people rave about this series, but I just found it "ok."

I was expecting a more dry mystery. I found this actually fast paced and enjoyable. Added the next book to my TBR.
